Submerged, 2017

Mild steel, spray paint, lacquer

Submerged is a series of works that explores a moment of transition between the visible and invisible, light and dark. Cut sheets of brushed mild steel, mounted onto plywood, are sprayed with black paint and lacquer creating an undefined boundary where the two meet.  As the black absorbs light and the metal partially reflects, the light bleeds into the darkness and the darkness into the light, creating an uncertain direction. Through this, the work alludes to a moment caught in time, unfinished and unresolved.
