OHM, 2020

Video

OHM, shot on 18mm in Brazil and the U.K juxtaposes joyful, fragile, yet powerful celebrations and people with uncompromising imagery of power stations and office blocks. The Carnival takes place within verdant landscapes, littered with favelas and historic buildings, while the power stations are sparse and raw. The offices are empty, yet with lights on constantly. The architectural fragments become protagonists alongside the celebrating crowds. Audio creates spaces and defines atmosphere within these uneasy relationships. Continual movement within the camera and on screen suggests an agitation in tandem with the unstable 8mm imagery. The texture references archival footage, familiar yet, unknown. A future, present and past disjointed.
