Erosion is a series of works that explore the tension between the known and the unknown, the environmental and the technological, with both states expressed, the state of the in-between is exposed. Cut sheets of brushed mild steel, mounted onto plywood, are partially covered with an undefined black viscous matter. Through this there is an interplay between the properties of the two surfaces, with the black absorbing light whilst partially reflecting it and the metal reflecting light whilst partially absorbing it. As a result, these two surfaces exist in continual dialogue creating a tension of pushing and pulling. The black matter is caught at a point of partial erosion and decay which contrasts against the clarity and certainty of the machined metal, with the edge between the two caught at a point of continual oscillation.
